Extracurricular activities
Events
We are available to help, support and run events that will benefit any school and the involvement of young people in the life of the school. Previously, this has included talent shows, sports competitions, and attendance on school trips.
Groups
We have the ability to support and initiate any group that is happening or that a school wants to launch, such as Christian Unions, School Councils, sports groups, music or homework clubs.
Peak Climbers
The project offers young people from local schools and churches the opportunity to train in rock climbing and take part in weekend climbing trips, sometimes camping in the Peak District. It is designed to benefit young people in a number of ways: building confidence, concentration and discipline, improving fitness and enriching their outlook on life. The experience improves life skills by emphasising the need for technique, discipline, focus and clear goals. Existing Perspective staff provide basic, local training (Andy has a Single Pitch Award which qualifies him for this type of training) and an additional freelance instructor is used for the weekend trips. Supported by Northamptonshire County Council.
Recycle a Cycle
Based at Kettering Science Academy, this project is designed to improve skills and help develop a sense of social responsibility among young people in line with Perspective's overall vision. It involves acquiring bikes at low cost that need repair and attention (including specialist bikes, such as BMX and mountain bikes) and training young people to undertake repair and maintenance work under proper supervision. Supported by Northamptonshire County Council.
Residentials
On a regular basis we have facilitated four-day Revision Residentials over the Easter break to prepare GCSE students for upcoming exams. We have also run short residentials for new Year 7s to help them with the transition into secondary school.
Slum Survivor
Slum Survivor is an event designed by Soul Action that helps young people consider the reality of poverty in the world. It can be run in a number of ways ranging from a few lessons to a few days.
"Slum Survivor is the challenge to spend a day, night or few days the way a billion spend a lifetime... The idea is that schools can use a specially-crafted guide to slot Slum Survivor into their curriculum, offering the chance to learn more about our one billion neighbours across the world that live in poverty."
